Gretchen + Matt

Gretchen and Matt’s wedding was a wonderful celebration of family and friends in Richmond Virginia.  The officiator had a great sense of humor and performed a perfect ceremony for Gretchen and Matt.    The ceremony included receiving Communion by Intinction by dipping bread in wine/grape juice.   Following the ceremony we relocated to The Jefferson Hotel for a fantastic dinner.

Mackenzies Senior Portraits

0

I met Mackenzie’s family on a typical spring evening.   All was clear and suddenly clouds and wind came in and threatened our photo session.   Fortunately the rain held off for the majority of the session and the overcast skies cooled the temps for us.  I enjoy shooting a variety of colors and locations for senior portrait sessions.  It was nice to capture Mackenzie’s love of softball and cheering.  The second day of our session took us to Leak Wall gardens where I always enjoy working.

Little Eve

She arrived to this world early.   Now just six weeks old and very active, Eve is doing well.  She was great model for us in the studio.  She struggled a bit through wardrobe changes and repositioning, but this is normal for most babies.   I was happy to meet Eve and capture some moments with her.

These seniors are just weeks away from accomplishing one of the biggest goals of their lives.  They have attended over a decade of school.  They have participated in school sports and club activities.   They have studied and prepared to become leaders and role models for future generations.   They have deserved the right to enjoy themselves during this photo session.   Congratulations to the class of 2013!

Aubrey’s Two Years Old!

0

This was Aubrey’s third session with me.  She has always been very calm and provided some great posing for me.  As kids get older and comfortable with the camera I can capture more and more moments.  Aubrey was very entertaining and her personality shows in many of the photos. This session was just prior to her 2nd birthday.   As usual, it was a pleasure to work with Aubrey and her family.  Happy Birthday!!!

New location for Jimmy McDonald Photography Studio

0

artscenterI’ve had a pleasant couple of years located on the third floor of Leak Wall Home and Gardens.   Increased studio sessions and a third floor climb directed me to find a location that was more convenient for my customers.  Jimmy McDonald Photography Studios is now located inside Art’s Richmond Center in downtown Rockingham, N.C.   The Art’s Richmond Center seemed like the best location since I teach classes and arrange for monthly photo group meetings.

Although a large percentage of my sessions are planned for outdoor photography with natural backgrounds, there a many instances where the client requests a studio session.   Newborn, maternity, commercial head shots, passport, cap and gown are just a few of the type of sessions that can be scheduled in the studio.

Various backdrop colors are available for studio photo sessions.   All sessions are scheduled in advance.   See the prices section of this website for additional information.

Bridal sessions and wedding photography services are available.  Please visit my main website at www.jmacphoto.com for additional information in the Wedding Section of the website.   I also schedule free wedding photography consultations with clients at Art’s Richmond Center.

Additional information including pricing can be viewed at www.jmacphotostudio.com

Gearing up for a busy 2013 wedding year.

0

I am excited to have opportunity to capture and share special moments.  I enjoy shooting portraits, wedding formals and candid during special events.  My experience allows me to provide a valuable photography service.

Pricing a photographer is an important part of wedding planning.  With many people in the field, finding an experienced photographer is sometimes more important than price.  You want to make sure that the person with the camera has the knowledge and equipment to handle various situations and still capture the special moments of your big day.  Whether your wedding party consist of 6 to 26 people, the time of coverage is what my fees are based on.  A smaller wedding typically doesn’t result into less coverage time.  I recommend that review my prices below as well as the pages about me and my experience.

A complete list of my wedding photography services with pricing is available HERE.

I am exhibiting at a few local Bridal shows and look forward to meeting several new Brides-to-be.

2/17/2013 – Belk Engagement Party – Rockingham – 1:30 pm – 4:30 pm

2/24/2013 – Piedmont Bridal Show – Cole Auditorium, Hamlet – 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm

Photography classes to begin next week.

photovlasspic

I have prepared for another series of photography classes hosted and sponsored by Art’s Richmond.  I received great response and look forward to meeting people with similar interests.  No experience or “fancy” cameras are required.  A digital SLR camera is preferred, however, there are some nice point and shoot cameras that allow advanced setup.  I will take the time to checkout the cameras during class and help determine what settings will be available.

I receive many photography questions via email and when out and about.  I enjoy meeting other camera enthusiasts and sharing what I have learned as a professional photographer.  During the classes, I will explain in detail various settings, techniques and tricks that I use during photo sessions and assignments.  The classes are informal and questions are encouraged.

Classes will begin at 6:00pm.  Each class is approx one to two hours depending on the class size. Class fee is $20.00

  • 2/ 5/2013 – Getting to know your camera and learning how to find the correct functions for your photography needs.
  • 2/12/2013 -  Composition (8 techniques will be discussed) and shooting for web display, e-sharing, printing or all of the above.
  • 2/19/2013 – Three main camera settings that you need to be aware of and understand.
  • 2/26/2013 – Lighting techniques – Flash and ambient lighting.
  • 3/12/2013 – Action Photography – Sporting events, children, wildlife,…etc.
  • 3/19/2013 – Landscape Photography.

Art’s Richmond “Mysterioso 2013″ annual gala.

0

Art’s Richmond held it’s annual fundraiser at Liberty Place in Rockingham, N.C.   This year’s theme was Mysterioso 2013 – Blue and Gold and attendees were encouraged to wear masquerade masks.    Attendees were entertained by spontaneous demonstrations of dance skills by two couples.  Another treat was the Cake Showcase featuring three local bakers competing for best representation of them, best taste and best overall.  Monetary votes were accepted to determine the winners.   The cake showcase and silent auction items help make the fundraiser a success.

Richmond County Chamber of Commerce holds 30th Meeting and Recognition Night.

0

I attended the Richmond County Chamber of Commerce 30th annual Meeting and Recognition Night at Cole Auditorium in Hamlet, N.C.  The Hollywood themed event rolled out the red carpet for attendees.  I was able to play a familiar Paparazzi role during the night to capture the event.

The 2012 Citizen of the Year award went to Dr. Masoud Ahdieh and John Jackson was introduced as the 2013 Chamber Chairman. Congratulations to both!

After the meeting guest moved to the banquet rooms for food and drinks.

Great advice from other wedding professionals.

wedding day photographyI do not usually link to other blogs here, but the following links are a must read for engaged couples planning their wedding day.

-The first has been a favorite of mine for years as I have seen “Uncle Joe” in action during several weddings that I have been hired to photograph.

“Why Hiring Uncle Joe to Photograph Your Wedding Isn’t Worth the Savings”

-The next link is very special since it does not come from another photographer.   A wedding venue owner notes her reasons for hiring a professional photographer based on her experience with wedding events.

“Why You Never Skimp On Wedding Photography!”

-This article has some great advice on cost and what to expect regardless of the size of your wedding.

“There Is No Substitute For a Professional Wedding Photographer”

-This next link is a horror story from a couple who thought that they had hired a pro.  This is a great reason why you should ask to see a recent complete wedding collection and printed samples from your photographer.  BTW – I have a collection of my most recent work available for viewing HERE.

“My Wedding Photography Nightmare”

Here are the top 5 reasons for hiring an experienced wedding photographer: (From an article at Today’s Bride)

  • A professional wedding photographer knows how to capture every single moment of your wedding in all its glory. They can give your photographs a polished look.
  • An experience photographer should suggest some unique ways to photograph your wedding. For example they will assess the location and suggest good areas in which to take the photographs so that the scenery will enhance the images.
  • If you are also employing a videographer then the photographer can take photographs that work well with the narrative and editing techniques chosen by the videographer.
  • Your photographer will have different ideas on how your final images can be presented. It is your special day so let everyone know how beautiful you looked and fun the day was.
  • Depending on your requirements then an experienced wedding photographer can usually bring along a second photographer so you can capture multiple angles, or at least recommend a photographer who they can work in tandem with to produce a great result.

Make sure you book your photographer well in advance. Just know that the best wedding photographers are being booked months in advance. Their reputation often precedes them and couples are clamoring to book their services. So get your date in early.

-This final link is my own two-cents about hiring a professional.

“Experience is important when hiring a wedding photographer.”

Autumn’s Last Storm – Hinson Lake

0

Another photography goal has been met. Our State Magazine selected one of my photos for their Tar Heel Image page of the November 2012 issue.

Hinson Lake is a beautiful place and I shoot portrait and landscape photos frequently at this location.  I was lucky to catch this scene on a cloudy day.  It’s one of my favorite landscape photos and have a print of this pic hanging in my office. This photo was submitted for the annual photo contest but didn’t win. However, I was excited when Our State contacted me in September wanting to use the photo in the November issue.

Our State is my favorite magazine and I’ve wanted to see one of my photos printed in this publication for a long time.  My next goal will be to earn an assignment from Our State.

This scene and various others are available for print purchasing from my Website.
