I had the pleasure of experiencing another baby’s first. Not only was this Camden’s first photo shoot with me, but it was his first time sitting on grass. It’s interesting to watch a baby’s reaction when the parents sit them down on something other than the familiar blanket or crib. Some babies are not sure if they should touch it and others can’t get enough of it in their hands. Not only is this fun to watch, it’s entertaining to see the parents trying to get the baby’s attention and smile for a photo. I’ve been fortunate to photograph Camden and other babies who will give me a few quick glances for the photo before turning their attention to the fluffy green blanket of grass.

With more than 40,000 cast members working at the resort, I had plenty of opportunities to photograph some of them on the job. Walt Disney World hires people from all parts of the globe to work at the happiest place on earth. While most of the employees are college students, I noticed a lot of older people working there. I learned that while most enroll in various college programs and begin their career elsewhere, many come back and take on management and other leadership roles. I look forward to one day retiring, moving to Orlando and becoming a cast member myself for the fun of it.

Dark clouds and windy conditions didn’t prevent ARCA drivers and race fans from attention the ARCA Re/Max American 200 race at Rockingham Speedway on Sunday. This was the final race in the ARCA RE/MAX Series and the championship between rivals Parker Kligerman and Justin Lofton provided an interesting race. Kligerman won the race but Lofton held on to finish third and take home the championship title. Bill Elliott Racing debut an upcoming driver Casey Roderick his No. 51 Dodge. A large group of fans enjoyed the impressive preformance by Roderick who finished 2nd. Legendary NASCAR race promoter H.A. “Humpy” Wheeler will served as Grand Marshal for the race. Wheeler welcomed the race fans and drivers during opening ceremonies. The track is a favorite among verterans and new drivers who have the opportunity to race at Rockingham Speedway. Speedway President Andy Hillenburg and his staff provided a great facility for the championship race.

I love watching various sporting events and pulling for my favorite teams. Being a sports fan I also enjoy being on the sidelines captures the action that takes place during a game. I will admit that some of the shots are pure luck. You need to know the game and understand specific plays in order to anticipate what will take place within a split second. It is interesting watching how a player can stay focused one the game while the fans are coaching from the stands. The mood of the game can change at any minute and I have seen games do a 180 for a dramatic finish. It’s nice to watch my teams win, but I do not enjoy blowout games. A complete shutout does not provide the intensity of game play and the number of photographs are reduced due to the lack of effort from each team. When I post a set of photos, you can almost guess whether or not a game is exciting and fought hard to the end based on the number of pics posted.
My zoom lens allows me to watch the game from a different perspective than the fans sitting on either side. It’s almost like standing on the field without the danger of getting trampled. I have been grazed by players and hit with a ball, but I have not been taken down yet. I suppose there is a very small amount of danger, but I will be brave and continue to roam around the sidelines to capture the action of the game.

I am currently working on a personal project to shoot photos and list some brief history of the courthouses located in each of the 100 county seats of North Carolina. I like to take day trips and this will be a perfect opportunity to see parts of North Carolina that I have yet to visit. Although many of the locations I can travel to within a day some overnight trips will be required. I hope to have a new set to post each week until the project is complete.
